Prof. Dr. Tejas Patel is the Chairman & Chief Interventional Cardiologist at Apex Heart Institute, Ahmedabad since August 2012. He is Professor & Head of Cardiology at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SVPIMSR), Smt. NHL. Municipal Medical College, affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, since February 2008. He has also been appointed as Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), Department of Internal Medicine in prestigious Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, USA in year 2013.

He is an internationally acclaimed interventional cardiologist well-known for his groundbreaking work in transradial interventions, robotic PCI and distant telerobotic PCI. He has been instrumental in assisting many countries (Asia, Europe & USA) in his pursuit to propagate this technique.

He is responsible for propagating transradial intervention technique in every corner of India and many other countries by training more than 5000 cardiologists from India and abroad through TRICO (one of the most prestigious international training course on transradial technique) courses since last 15 years (TRICO 2005 to TRICO 2020). He has written three books (1) “Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics”, (2) “Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics & Beyond”, which have been accepted as a monogram / textbook on the subject of Transradial Technique in the world. This 200 page monogram has been published from U.S.A. (3) Patel’s Atlas of Complications of Coronary Interventions: Plan-B, published from U.S.A. He has to his credit 314 publications including authorship of 3 textbook, 22 chapters in different textbooks, 186 original articles in reputed national and international journals and 103 abstracts in reputed national and international journals. He is one of the authors of “White Paper” on transradial intervention technique for SCAI (an apex intervention society of USA). He is an Editor-in-chief for www.transradialWORLD.com, the most popular educational website for transradial approach in the world. He currently sits on the editorial board of Journal of Invasive Cardiology-published from USA. He is instrumental for designing dedicated catheter curves (PAPA-1 and PAPA-2) for transradial technique, patented in U.S.A. They are being manufactured and marketed by Medtronic, U.S.A.

Dr. Patel is a Fellow of Cardiological Society of India (F.C.S.I.) (since 2005), a Fellow of American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C.) (since 2003), a Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (F.E.S.C.) (since 2005) and a Fellow of Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention (F.S.C.A.I.) (since 2003). He received Dr. K. M. Sharan Cardiology Excellence Award in 2002 for pioneering work in the field of cardiology. This is the highest award given by Indian Medical Association. He has also been conferred with Dr. B. C. Roy Award by Hon. President of India in 2008 for pioneering a new technique in cardiology field. It is the highest honour in the field of Medicine in India. In 2015, he has been bestowed upon Padma Shri Award (one of the highest civilian award of India) by Hon. President of India in recognition of his distinguished work in the field of cardiology.
