Dr. Nicholson is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Director of Interventional Cardiology and Director of Complex Coronary and Cardiac Intervention for the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Nicholson also serves as the program director for the advanced Complex High-Risk Interventional Procedures (CHIP) fellowship for the Emory Healthcare System. Dr. Nicholson came to Emory University in 2020. He is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College where he majored in Biology and Fine Arts. He completed his medical school education at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and served as the chief medical resident at Brown University. Dr. Nicholson did his general cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Emory University. In 2006, he joined his father, who is also an Emory trained cardiology alumnus, to practice interventional cardiology. During his 14 years in practice, he developed a nationally recognized complex interventional program in York, Pennsylvania. He founded and developed the institution’s carotid stenting program, structural heart program, transcatheter aortic valve replacement program, and the complex coronary intervention program. While proficient in the spectrum of interventional cardiology procedures, Dr. Nicholson is nationally and internationally recognized for his expertise in the treatment of Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO’s). He has been a regional or national host for over 120 training courses, personally educating more than 500 practicing interventional cardiologists these complex procedures. He has extensive publications in the field of complex coronary intervention and is a perennial live invited operator for national conferences such as Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) and CTO+ Summit. After a successful career in the private practice arena, Dr. Nicholson chose to return to academics at Emory University to have the opportunity to impact the training of the future generation of interventional cardiologists.
